Auto-top-off and Dosing Systems:

Auto top off and dosing pumps automate the process of adding lost liquids and nutrients to your aquarium system. If you are using high powered lights such as metal halides, then you know how it is pour a gallon or more of water into your tank everyday from evaporation. Auto top offs allow you to automate this process by pumping water from an external reservoir, such as a 50 gallon plastic Tupperware container, into your tank when the water level reaches a certain depth. Most Auto top off systems use something called a float valve this valve floats on top of the water surface and when the water lowers to a certain point it will connect a circuit, usually attached to a water pump in an external tank. Once the water level is low enough and the float switch and auto top off system turn on the water pump, the pump will deliver water into the main tank were the ATO float valve is. Once the water level rises and pushes the float valve up to the regular level it will shut off the water pump until enough water evaporates again to repeat the process.

This makes it much easier on both marine hobbyist and fish alike. The aquarium owner will now only have to fill the external water reservoir every couple days instead of filling the main tank once a day. Salinity levels will remain more consistent inside the tank. When water evaporates it leaves behind the salt and chemicals in the water and makes them more concentrated, and ATO will help keep these chemical and salt parameters more consistent and fish friendly. Always use RO water with NO SALT added to top off your aquarium water. Using salt water to top off your water will result in high salinity levels since salt does not evaporate with water, this will severely stress or possibly kill your inhabitants.

These pumps can be set to dose small to large doses at set intervals. This will help save time for the aquarist and provide a more consistent and stable dose for the inhabitants.
