Marine and Saltwater Aquarium Salt:

In a Marine or saltwater aquarium the most vital part besides actually adding water is adding quality salt to the water. Salt doesn’t only add salt to the water, it does much more than that. Salt mixtures have been developed to act as a Ph buffer and also add trace elements. Our lines of synthetic salts should be mixed with reverse osmosis water. When you do partial water changes you will need to replace the water with salt water, when you are just topping off evaporated water do not use more salt water, use only RO water. When water evaporates it leaves behind minerals, including salt, making the water left behind contain a high concentration of salt.

You should store your salt in a good tight contain as any moisture that gets into the container can and will turn your salt into an unusable hard block of salt.

Water evaporation cannot be prevented but you can reduce the number of times you have to refill your tank per week by using an auto top off system.
